Summary
Selank is a synthetic seven-residue analog of tuftsin, a fragment of immunoglobulin G. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow and registered in Russia as an anti-anxiety nasal drop. A Russian clinical study in generalized anxiety reported effects comparable to a benzodiazepine, without sedation.

HydrophobicGly / ProPolarBasic (+)Acidic (−)
The immune peptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) extended with the stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro tail used in Semax.
How it works
Studies in rodents suggest Selank modulates GABAergic signalling, changing the expression of genes involved in GABA neurotransmission, and affects enkephalin breakdown and serotonin metabolism. It also retains some of tuftsin’s immunomodulatory activity.
Research use cases

What the research found
Anxiety (clinical, Russia)
In patients with generalized anxiety disorder or neurasthenia, Selank reduced anxiety scores to a similar degree as medazepam, with fewer sedative effects. The study was published in a Russian journal and has not been replicated in large Western trials.1
GABA-related gene expression
In rat frontal cortex, Selank altered the expression of genes involved in GABAergic neurotransmission, partly resembling the effect of GABA itself.2
Safety and open questions
Reported as well tolerated, with no withdrawal syndrome described in Russian clinical use. Controlled safety data in English are limited.
Regulatory status
Registered in Russia as an anxiolytic nasal medicine. Not approved in the US or EU. Named in the February 2026 HHS compounding announcement.
Status was accurate when this page was last reviewed on October 26, 2026. Regulations change; check with the relevant authority before relying on it.
Selank: common questions
What is Selank amidate or N-acetyl Selank?
These are modified versions marketed by suppliers with claims of greater stability or potency. They are distinct molecules, and published research on them is minimal.
How does Selank differ from Semax?
Both share the Pro-Gly-Pro tail, but Selank is built on tuftsin (an immune peptide) and is studied for anxiety, while Semax is built on an ACTH fragment and is studied for stroke and cognition.
Is Selank approved for human use?
Registered in Russia as an anxiolytic nasal medicine. Not approved in the US or EU. Named in the February 2026 HHS compounding announcement.
